High quality and a tremendous value.

I received my set a few days ago and so far I am really impressed. If it seems like a good value to you after reading the description, you are right, it is. You get 9 audio CDs, each about an hour long or so. There are three textbooks included also. These are much longer than I thought they would be, in excess of 200 pages each. I don't know about anyone else, but I am worn out on doing things on the computer, so the thought of having CDs I could pop into the stereo and then just lay on my bed with the book open seemed like a pretty inviting idea. Luckily, the info in the books is recent, everything seems current, and you won't be stuck with archaic, overly formal things that would only be appropriate for the Portuguese Royal Court of 1743 A.D. (That had been a problem with other companies in the past). The books also come with notes about common practices in Brazil (I was wondering if they still use military time, and there is a note about that). There is a nice sensibility here in terms of what you need to learn (they cover everything) vs. what people actually say, so they may teach you something but give you a heads up about what is typically said in all reality (this will include regional differences in pronunciation).
The CDs have at least 5 narrators. They all sound a tad different from one another, and that is good. You need some variety to get an idea of what the nuts and bolts are as opposed to slight regional variations. There are additional resources online, including a large PDF with phrases. The textbooks also serve as workbooks, so you do some reading, some exercises and some quizzes. There is a great deal of instruction in the books about pronunciation. With this language, that is a huge help. I would say this set is equivalent to at least two semesters of instruction at the college level. Imagine that for this price. I have not been to Brazil in a long time, but to relearn everything here has been great.

Worth Every Penny!

I have been studying Portuguese for quite a few years, both self study and attended a school in Salvador for a month
in 2004. Over the years, I purchased various programs including Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone and some others to mix it up a bit and break up the monotony. I purchased this program and was surprised that this program has been completely revised and totally unlike the previous version. I was really amazed at the large vocabulary, which to me, equaled or exceeded the big name (and more expensive) programs. I like the fact that the conversations on the CD tracks are done at a pace that you would hear in every day life. Included with this program is additional information which is accessed online. This program is well worth the money!

Great Product!

I really enjoy the Living Language Complete series. It is a step by step process with repetition and practice oral and written. The texts and the audio cds work very well together. It is great that I can listen in my car, practice and repeat as necessary. There are texts books for each leve. There is even a note book to keep track of practice, vocabulary, questions, and any other useful notes. There are 3 levels Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. The program builds steadily and reviews previous lessons and skills to help increase the retention rates. I have the Living Language program in French, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese as well. The system works well for me.
