This volume presents the proceedings of the 6th International ICST Conference on Heterogeneous Networking for Quality, Reliability, Security and Robustness and of the Third International ICST Workshop on Advanced Architectures and Algorithms for Internet DElivery and Applications. Both events were held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in November 2009. To each of these events is devoted a specific part of the volume. The first part is dedicated to the proceedings of ICST QShine 2009. The first four chapters deal with new issues concerning the quality of service in IP-based telephony and multimedia. A second set of four chapters addresses some important research problems in mul- hop wireless networks, with a special emphasis on the problems of routing. The following three papers deal with recent advances in the field of data mana- ment and area coverage in sensor networks, while a fourth set of chapters deals with mobility and context-aware services. The fifth set of chapters contains new works in the area of Internet delivery and switching systems. The following chapters of the QShine part of the volume are devoted to papers in the areas of resource management in wireless networks, overlay, P2P and SOA arc- tectures. Some works also deal with the optimization of quality of service and energy consumption in WLAN and sensor networks and on the design of a mobility support in mesh networks.

This book constitutes the proceedings of two conferences: The 6th International ICST Conference on Heterogeneous Networking for Quality, Reliability, Security and Robustness (QShine 2009) and the 3rd International ICST Workshop on Advanced Architectures and Algorithms for Internet DElivery and Applications (AAA-IDWEA 2009).

QShine is a very successfull series of conferences providing an international forum for the discussion and sharing of new research ideas on the design and implementation of Quality of Service (QoS) in heterogeneous wireless and wireline networks. The 19 papers presented at the conference were selected from 40 paper submissions. In addition to this 25 papers from leading researchers working in related fields are presented. The conference is organized in 11 technical sessions covering IP telephony and multimedia, mesh networks, mobility and heterogeneous wireless networks.

AAA-IDEA comprises 7 papers that cover a variety of topics such as architectures and algorithms for content and service delivery, energy-aware networks, QoE in media streaming as well as support for mobile and wireless systems.

Great for young kids

I am no pianist, but I am able to teach piano till probably level 3-4 Alfred's lessons. I play a bit and have been always involved in my oldest daughter's lessons. I have learned a lot myself too. My 5 year old scatter brain or rather active son is not ready to take piano seriously and I don't even have access to a piano teacher who accepts kids his age (pre reading and this active!). He begged for piano lessons so I bought him this book along with Alfred's Prep Course A set.
Alfred's a bit too fast for him. He needed something even easier and more fun. This is real fun for him. He can't get enough and he just cracks himself up with some songs, laughing no matter how many times he plays it. The best is Kangaroo song with it's boing in a wiggly voice at the end. He made me make a movie of him playing it for his cousin :) I think after this book he would be ready for Prep Course from Alfred's set. I also need to add that my 7 year old is having fun with it. She took piano lessons with a teacher almost a year ago, stopped at Alfred's level 1a book and didn't want to continue her lessons. Now almost year later, she is having fun with this one with her brother. It's way too easy for her, but fun. After not playing piano for almost a year, she is asking for lessons again... Thanks to this silly book :)
However, I must add that this book would have been too simple, boring and easy for my oldest daughter at this very same age: 5. We had something similar for her to start with: Hal's with CD and it wasn't her cup of tea. She went right into Alfred's level 1a and flew through it in a month. She got to level 4 in 4 semesters. My then 6 year old had to go through the Alfred's primer level before getting to 1a. So it really depends on a kid....
It worked for us and I am happy we have it. Hearing my son and ROTFLOL with every practice is just so much fun for me :)

Super piano lesson book for my beginning, young students!

I really enjoy teaching with the Faber books in addition to other methods I use. No matter what the level, this series focuses on getting my students to read their music more quickly. There's a strong base in music theory and I find my students play from the grand staff a bit more quickly. The pieces tend to have a bit more challenge to them, depending on level, and I've seen very good results using these books. From lesson books to theory and technique and great solo pieces, I recommend these as a piano teacher. My First Piano Adventure, Lesson Book A with CD

Good for young pianists.
It's ok.
I see that other piano teachers like it because of the piano accompany.
Me, as a musician, I rather compose my own.
But this book is well planned.

Looks good, kind of small

I bought both Spanish I and II for grades K-5 for my 9 year old. We haven't used them yet, but I did look through them.

The good:
They cover a good amount of vocabulary
They aren't overwhelming, each page only has about 5-8 vocab words on it.
The pictures are colorful but not cheesy and cartoon-like (I hate that for kids older than about 5-6)
Seem very nice for the price.

The not-so-good (I won't go as far as saying "bad"):
The books are kind of slim and small. They are both only 80 pages including the table of contents and answer key, and measure about 6"x9", smaller than most workbooks. Still, I think they cover a lot.
They do not introduce much in the way of actually SPEAKING Spanish. Verbs and common phrases are not included in the lessons, aside from a small amount in the instructions (which are translated). You will definitely want to purchase something to supplement these to teach verbs and common phrases.

Spanish I contains vocab for: Town Square, Alphabet, Numbers (1-20), Colors, Days of the Week, Seasons of the Year, Weather, Animals, The Body, Clothing, Sports, Family, The House, Household Items, Food, At the Table, At School, The Classroom, Helpers in the Community, Professions, Transportation.

Spanish II contains: Numbers (1-40), Calendar, At the Supermarket, Fruits, Vegetables, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Health, Accessories, Household Items, Tools and Materials, Communication, Activities, In the City, At the Bank, In the country, Wild Animals, Nature.

One additional note: I think K-5 is an accurate grade level expectation, but for pre-readers and pre-writers, you will obviously have to work through it together and practice together. Older children could do much of it independently though.

Glorified vocabulary list

This book is well-suited to students aged 2nd-3rd grade. Everything in it is useful, easy to do, well-explained, and has many colorful, engaging pictures. HOWEVER... it is pretty much just a glorified vocabulary list. There are a FEW activities that take it beyond that but NOT many. I would LOVE to see this with twice as many pages, with more things for the student to actually read and DO, rather than just copying vocabulary words. It's an adequate book, but certainly will not teach a child Spanish without lots of further instruction.

Great choice for a simple Spanish curricula for kids!

This Spanish curricula is perfect for the younger crowd to learn basic conversational Spanish. Our 7 year old flew through this in our homeschool this year an was asking for the next booklet in a short time. Very simply laid out and a great option at a perfect price for homeschool families, or even those who simply want to add more to their kids education.
