Jyotika Virdi focuses on how this dominant medium configures the "nation" in post-Independence Hindi cinema. She scrutinizes approximately thirty films that have appeared since 1950 and demonstrates how concepts of the nation form the center of this cinema's moral universe. As a kind of storytelling, Indian cinema provides a fascinating account of social history and cultural politics, with the family deployed as a symbol of the nation. Virdi demonstrates how the portrayal of the nation as a mythical community in Hindi films collapses under the weight of its own contradictions--irreconcilable differences that encompass gender, sexuality, family, class, and religious communities. Through these film narratives, the author traces transactions among the various constituencies that struggle, accommodate, coexist uneasily, or reconstitute each other over time, and, in the process, reveal the topography of postcolonial culture.

Well illustrated, easy to read and colorful images helps pranic healer who has no medical background to have a better understanding of the human anatomy and various disorders of our system all in one book.

This book will help us during our healing with subject who has severe ailment as we have a better understanding of the function of the organ, visual of the organ and their cause.

I can use this book to teach my children about our human system.

For too long the social discourse on "drugs" has been confined to equally sterile "treat-the-addict" and "incarcerate-the-criminal" rhetorics that arose between the end of the 19th century and early years of the 20th. The problem is we are now nearly a decade into the 21st century. With the prisons stuffed full, with the border with Mexico a free-fire zone, it is time to realize an entirely new perspective is needed. This book is one of a handful that points a way out of the dead end impasse of contemporary drug rhetorics.

To my knowledge, one-of-a-kind, risky, but much needed

As this book points out, just writing about this topic puts the writer on dangerous ground - e.g., if you do not condemn drugs, you must be using drugs. I applaud this book for taking this risk: applying critical thought to the subject of drugs in context of culture. Considering the breadth and depth of critical thought, drugs, and culture, why this book seems to be a genre unto itself is a thought provoking question in itself. This book provokes thought and gives the reader the room to think through the issues at stake and to formulate their own answers. I recommend this book because I have decided that the "with us or against us" answers are ignoring all that thought has to offer.

Great information with a balanced view and important information for energy work.

I heard about Jason on Coast to Coast and bought this book for Kindle app before the interview. The interview was so bad, I regretted the purchase and thought the book would be a big let down. Well, I was wrong. Jason is a quite young man, very soft spoken, interviewers think a guy this young and not trying to shill products or deliver some astounding message, is to be suspected as disingenuous or making things up. But the good interviews I've seen where they plumb the depths of Jason's amazing experiences, are rewarded with information those of us seekers want and need to know. I have so many things in common with Jason it was really spooky, but he is apparently called to serve and deliver information in these times. The actual author, Bob Mitchell, queried Jason on all the very up to date subjects like the hidden space programs, Corey Goode, end times, prophecies, Planet X, etc. etc. that are current right now. Jason doesn't fall for the traps of agreeing or endorsing any of these subjects and stresses a wait and see attitude, which I agree with, as we are seeminglg being deluged with information every single day about some horrible future, some heavenly future and everything in between, but the bottom line as Jason says that what is most important is that each of us need to heal ourselves, of our karma, things we need to forgive others for and ourselves as well. Nothing else really matters. The most important thing to me in the book was the information he was taught on the Egyptian Postures, which directly relate to ChiGong, TaiChi, and other such energy methods. And as he points out, ChiGong and the postures and other methods like these are THE key to this healing. I am in the process of learning Dragon and Tiger ChiGong online with Bruce Frantzis Engergy Arts, so I got Jason's Postures book and DVD and right away you can feel that these postures are like tuning the human antenna to different energies. I will be learning them all along with Dragon and Tiger health ChiGong, and I think these are important methods to learn, especially for us older "boomers" to keep us energetically balanced as our generation phases out of here and leaves it the next wave of spiritual warriors to bring more light to this planet and lead to a better future for mankind. Get the book, or Kindle version, pick up the Egyptain postures DVD and book, get some shingite rods or the Russian ones, and check out Bruce Frantzis books and online courses, which to me make learning ChiGong much easier, and get your energy cleared of blocks and things that hold you back, you will enjoy Jason's book and it will inspire you to action.

Love this book!

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS for publishing this incredible book. I couldn't put it down, Every chapter was filled with interesting topics of which I was already interested in. I encourage anyone who wants to learn about time-lines, time-travelers, ETs, bloodlines, Egyptian poses, crystals, and many more other fascinating views needs to read this book.I have a sixth sense when it comes to filtering out fact from fiction and I believe that Jason is for real. This book is truly mind blowing.
I can't wait for more books from Jason and Bob. We need more opportunities to learn about what has been kept secret for ages.

I have read hundreds of articles and many books on all the subjects about spirituality and OBEs and this book is by far the most insightful and genuine book I have ever read on this subject. From personal experience this book is a doorway into a new honestly about what is really going on! A must read for all humanity.

This nicely edited and useful collection of essays concerns the impact of philanthropy on communications, arts and culture in the US from 1920 to 1970.... The essays are well written, and the footnotes are carefully done and reflect research in the most recent secondary scholarship. Any solid research library will want this volume. Highly recommended. About the Author
Samuel Wells is Dean of the Chapel at Duke University and Research Professor of Christian Ethics at Duke Divinity School, Durham, North Carolina. He is editor of the accompanying volume, Christian Ethics: An Introductory Reader (2010) and The Blackwell Companion to Christian Ethics (with Stanley Hauerwas, 2004), and author of several books including God’s Companions: Reimagining Christian Ethics (Wiley-Blackwell, 2006).

Ben Quash is Professor of Christianity and the Arts at King’s College London. He is the author of Theology and the Drama of History (2005), and is former Reviews Editor of the international journal Studies in Christian Ethics.

Terribly composed in unclear and confusing language

Terribly composed in unclear and confusing language. The idea-- suggested by the authors-- that this has any merit as a high school level textbook is laughable. The poor, overly intellectualized, and unnecessary complex wording makes the book nearly unreadable. Stay away-- there are far better texts available on the subject.

I have been favored there, uniformly, with a great deal of the Spirit of prayer. But this winter, in particular, my mind was exceedingly exercised on the question of personal holiness; and in respect to the state of the church, their want of power with God, and the weakness of the Orthodox churches in Boston, the weakness of their faith, and their want of power in the midst of such a community. The fact that they were making little or no progress in overcoming the errors of the city, greatly affected my mind.
I gave myself to a great deal of prayer. After my evening services, I would retire as early as I well could; but rose up at four O'clock in the morning, because I could sleep no longer, and immediately went to the study, and engaged in prayer. And so deeply was my mind exercised, and so absorbed in prayer, that I frequently continued from the time I arose at four O'clock, till the gong called to breakfast, at eight O'clock. My days were spent, so far as I could get time—for I had a great deal of company coming constantly to see me—in searching the Scriptures. I read nothing else, all that winter, but my Bible; and a great deal of it seemed new to me. Again the Lord took me, as it were, from Genesis to Revelation. He led me to see the connection of things—how things predicted in the Old Testament had come out in the New Testament—the promises, threatenings, the prophecies and their fulfillment;—and indeed, the whole Scripture seemed to me all ablaze with light, and not only light, but it seemed as if God's Word was instinct with the very life of God.

About the Author
Rashid Raziq Rashad born in Atlanta, GA on November 17, 1967 grew up in Techwood Homes the first public housing project built in America. Techwood Homes was completed in 1936, it was intended to eliminate the slums that the poor had been living in, but eventually became one itself. Throughout the 70s and 80s the area was synonymous with urban blight cascading in drugs and violence. His father Woodrow Stargell Jr. was a construction worker that helped build many of the commercial buildings in downtown Atlanta. His mother Eloise Stargell worked at nearby Georgia Tech for 38 years very seldom missing any days in those 38 years. His father was murdered by a so called family friend when he was only 8 years old. Rashid is the youngest of four children, Robert, Donna and “Scott”. Rashid has ten children, six grandchildren, and a beautiful loving supportive wife Anisa Rashad. Rashid graduated from Henry Grady High School in Atlanta, Ga. 1985 with a four year athletic scholarship from Savannah State University in football. Rashid started working at UPS part-time in1986 becoming full-time a few years later, after 13 years with UPS. Rashid started a courier service Navigator Express, Inc. from booth strap in 2000 with his brother “Scott” earning over a million dollars in just 3yrs and owning 4 homes. Rashid believes this was accomplished by understanding the power of family unity and how to use it to gain economic freedom for generations. Undeniably we humans all come from a family!
