Well written, concise text, with excellent illustrations

I used this book for a graduate level course in earth science. It was not required reading, but since I had no earth science back ground, I found that I needed to read a basic textbook in order to understand the journal articles that were required for the course. By the end of the semester, I had read most of this extremely well written book, and felt that in terms of mastery of the course content, I had surpassed even those who had majored in geology as undergrads. I am a very visual learner, and particularly appreciated the beautiful illustrations, many of which visually summarize key concepts. One of my favorite textbooks ever.

Great conceptual book for introductory Earth Systems courses

I selected this textbook for my Intro to Earth Systems Science course on the recommendation of colleagues. I was very happy with the level at which the book is written, the quality of images and diagrams, a the topics covered. I did not follow the chapters in sequential order - for example, I think it makes more sense to teach concepts of atmospheric convection before ocean currents. The end of chapter problems were also a bit hit or miss. But I was happy with the book and it received favorable reviews by my students.

This book was recommended by the instructor and follows his lectures. It is very informative as textbooks go, and although I am not overly interested in science, it answers a lot of questions.

Book „Internet of Things with Intel Galileo” by Miguel de Sousa in my opinion is very good introductory book to the new incoming revolution in semicon industry which is Internet of Things. Book starts with short explanation of the idea standing behind of concept Internet of Things followed by a description of Intel Galileo board and comparison to Raspberry Pi. Next it quickly jumps to hands-on. Following chapters are devoted to setting up board, installing software, and running projects. Projects such as building an irrigation system and Christmas light effects which is quite ok for beginning from my point of view. Descriptions are clear and supported by pictures and screen-shots. Book length is I would say very encouraging to read it. I was always scared and overwhelmed by holding 1000-page bricks in my hand. Definitely I can recommend this book to those ones who want to start their adventure with Internet of Things.

While a few of the questions are easy and right out of the lab text

My Security+ class uses this lab manual extensively. In the beginning of the semester our instructor warned us that the questions at the end of the labs were difficult, and not to worry, as he would be dropping the 3 lowest scores. I wasn't all that scared after being in IT for 20 years. Well, now we're in week 10 and I absolutely LOATHE this book. While a few of the questions are easy and right out of the lab text, a great majority of them are difficult, require outside research, and are worded almost in a tricky manner. If you are a Windows Server 2008 expert you will likely breeze through this, but I am definitely not.

The book is written by a different author than the main Security+ text by Cengage, and correlates with said book very little. The chapters align, yes, but that's about as far as it goes.

This is not to say that there isn't a lot to be learned from the labs in this book... there most definitely is a TON to learn. But if you are using this in a class where your grade depends on answering these questions, be prepared for possible frustration.

This book is the worst. The questions are out there at times and ...

This book is the worst. The questions are out there at times and the book is riddled with errors. Example: Lab 9-3 Has you add users to your domain after created 3 groups. You then assign the new users to the groups. It then tells you to log out of the server and log back in as one of the new users you just created, but guess what? You can't do that because a normal user is not allowed to log into the domain controller. You can't go on from there, so hopefully you aren't doing this at home without any instructor to help you. God forbid you're trying to learn this stuff on your own. Also, if you don't know anything about Windows Server 2008, you are going to have lots of problems.

About the Author
Father Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P., was born in 1877 and is held as one of the greatest Catholic theologians of the twentieth century. He focused his writings against the error of Modernism, which denied the objective truth of Divine revelation, as well as on apologetics, including philosophy. In total, he authored over five hundred books and articles, and wrote as a thorough Thomist. Among Father Garrigou-Lagrange s numerous works are The Three Ages of the Interior Life, Christian Perfection and Contemplation, Christ the Savior, and God, His Existence and Nature. He died in 1964.

"Fire Within" on Steroids

This book is totally amazing. If you liked Fire Within by Fr. Dubay, you'll love this more indepth look at growth in the spiritual life. It's greatest strength over Fire Within is that he includes how spiritual progress looks in the life of an active person living in the world. It is full of useful and practical information for growth in holiness.

Walking interiorly with God

This work is a summation of Thomist (St Thomas Aquinas) theology, and draws much from St Therese, St Francis, St Francis de Sales, among many other important spiritual teachers down through the ages.

It is an opus maximus, and as such, it has much to offer. But, then, I've culled approximately 30 pages of notes to highlight the main points. Much filler and background can be set aside. Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange has an extensive bibliography, and several of his derivative works are more concise than this huge tome. Don't get me wrong, this work is important, and has it's place on my shelf. But, it's half a year's study for most of us, and for lay-people like myself, it's a very large mountain to climb.

I do recommend this work, highly! But, be prepared to invest a large amount of time and thought :)

Excellent Resource

Maggie Black does a fantastic job in describing the United Nations in all of its complexities and with great nuance. She does this with succinct, engaging writing filled with important information. It's a great tutorial on the UN that discusses both its achievements and failures. Black discusses the types of reforms needed at the UN as well. A friend of mine who has worked for the UN for 30 years says it's the best book on the UN and he's read many large tomes on this topic.

very disappointed

I have been suffering from insomnia since the death of my husband over a year ago. Before then, I had occasional sleeplessness (everyone does) but the majority of the time my sleep was terrific. When I read the reviews for this book I was very surprise to find them all positive and thought this must be the book for me.
Imagine my disappointment when it arrived, other that listing the dangers of sleeping pills and insomnia chat rooms, this book is basic information on sleep "hygiene" and positive thinking. Did you know the more you worry about your sleeping habits the less likely you are to get a good nights sleep?? Get some exercise every day, limit your caffeine intake and don't take naps during the day etc etc.. Is there anyone out there suffering from insomnia who has not been given this advice over and over. If getting a good nights sleep was simply a matter of telling yourself you will, I think no one would be suffering from insomnia.
If you are looking for a book on positive thinking and basic sleep hygiene this is for you, otherwise, save your money!

Could have been a 20 page book

Lots of repetions about how the auther could not sleep, why she could not sleep, and what not sleeping did to her social life. Not much help for people who actually need help sleeping. This book should have been condensed to a few pages and published in a magazine. Also, at the end the author recommends many relaxation techniques---all of which need to be purchased on the web.

Exactly what I needed!!

Wow! I read this book on the strength of the other five star reviews and I am in total agreement with them. What a blast! Not like any insomnia book I have ever read before.

I consider myself a bit of an expert when it comes to sleep books. ( I have bought in excess of 30!) Most just give background information and loads of filler. But now and again a book comes along that really stands out from the rest. "The Effortless Sleep Method" is one of them. In my opinion, there are only 3 or 4 books you will ever need to overcome insomnia. These are, in order of merit

The Effortless Sleep Method
Say Goodnight to Insomnia
I Can Make You Sleep (a self-hypnosis book)
Desperately Seeking Snoozing (only if you want to try sleep restriction)

This book is the least 'padded' of the lot. It's gritty and raw and a bit rough round the edges, (a bit poorly edited) but that is part of its charm. The first chapter is a harrowing narrative of the author's own battle with insomnia. It will strike a chill into the heart of any insomniac and I really found it resonated with my own experience. But having brought you down, in the rest of the book, she really `lifts you up' and tells you exactly how to change things. This is really not proper CBT like "Say Goodnight to Insomnia" but I haven't read anything with a better account of the thought processes needed to stop negative thoughts about insomnia.

There is the usual section on sleeping pills but don't miss this chapter out. I can't give spoilers, but after reading this chapter I gave up on the idea of ever taking another sleeping tablet. But best of all, there is a clear plan of action which is often missing in so many books. The instructions are precise and because of this, it is more of a `how to book' than just an information book.

I can see that this might be a bit of a `Marmite' book. You'll either love it or hate it! But I think I found it even more helpful than everyone's favourite "Say Goodnight to Insomnia".

This book left me feeling more hopeful about sleep than I had done in years and I think it was this book which gave me the final `push' in cracking my chronic insomnia. If you have insomnia or sleep issues, you won't regret buying this book.

This is not quite a book, as a special issue of Sunset Magazine. I don't live in a tropical zone, and there is some info about tropical-like plants that will grow in colder climates, but not enough to make this book useful. I can find more info on the Internet.

Great buy for the Tropical Gardener

If you're like me, you prefer beautiful tropical landscape images over reading text about gardens. This book does an excellent job of that, particularly for the price. I regularly purchase books on tropical gardening, and what I don't want is another listing of plants, I can get that from the mail order catalogues. I like to see images of tropical environments that I can consider recreating, or views that show good tropical garden designs of actual plants (not drawn images). For the money, this book is well worth it.
